Dr. Robert Hashemiyoon completed his undergraduate studies at the prestigious Ivy League school, the University of Pennsylvania. The University of Pennsylvania dates its founding to 1740. Penn has also welcomed countless leaders through its doors, including nine signers of the Declaration of Independence and 11 signers of the Constitution.
The University of Pennsylvania remains an
eminent, world-class institution for the creation and dissemination of knowledge, serving as a model for colleges and universities throughout the world.
With a double major in Biology and History & Sociology of Science Dr. Hashemiyoon not only learned the practical aspects of the sciences but also their ramifications for society and humanity as whole throughout history. Graduating with honors (Cum Laude) from Penn he then attended the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Founded in 1825, the GWU School of Medicine and Health Sciences is the 11th oldest medical school in the country and the first in the nation's capital. Since its establishment, the school has been at the forefront of medical education, and has grown to include highly-ranked programs in the health and biomedical sciences.
After graduating from GWU medical school Dr. Hashemiyoon then went on to study the specialty of Internal Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center, home of The Washington Heart program. WHC is a national leader in the research, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. MedStar Washington Hospital Center's heart program is the only one in the Washington region to be ranked nationally by the just-released U.S.News and World Report's "Best Hospitals" 2013-2014 issue. It is among only 147 facilities, just three percent of the 4,806 hospitals in the country to earn a national ranking in any specialty.
After Residency Dr. Robert worked in various specialties honing his internal medicine and general medical practice skills. He eventually became licensed in 6 different states as he established specialty centers around the country before finally settling down in California.
Dr. Robert Hashemiyoon has worked in several different specialities since his Internal Medicine training at the nationally recognized Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
As medical director of The National Health and Nutrition Institute in Washington, D.C. from 1991- 1992 He treated hundreds of patients with moderate to severe weight problems using prescription strength medication and high protein meal replacement therapy.
From 1992-1994 Dr. Hashemiyoon worked for Medical And Respiratory and Rehabilitation Services; he was the medical director for 6 specialty rehab centers providing respiratory therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy at Assisted Living and Nursing Homes in Maryland and Virginia.
From 1993-1995 Dr. Robert was the medical director of First Choice Rehabilitation which was an outpatient sports medicine center focusing on orthopedic sports injuries and workman's comp.
In 1992 he began his training in the field of Phlebology under the astute tutelage of Dr, Craig Feied, and international expert on venous disease. Dr. Hashemiyoon rose quickly to become one of the United States nationally recognized experts in the field of Phlebology. In 1995 he was invited to be on the Education Committee of the American College Of Phlebology. This committee was responsible for both clinician and public education.
Dr. Robert always maintained a connection to his Internal Medicine background by working at several Family Practice and Urgent Care Centers in Maryland and Virginia, but he also began to focus on anti-aging medicine and the sub-specialty of cosmetic medicine early in his medical career.
Dr. Robert was always on the cutting edge of medical advances and theories. He was one of the first U.S. physicians to consider and treat the condition of Andropause (male menopause or Low T) he began treating patients with hormone replacement therapy, including testosterone and growth hormone, according to strict protocols which he developed in 1994. These same protocols are in use now by over 13 urology centers across the country.
He was one of the first physicians to use finasteride at lower doses for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in 1993, a full 4 years before Propecia was FDA approved. His regimen of 1mg. finasteride orally and 5% minoxidil topically is now the gold standard as the only proven and FDA approved treatments for the non-surgical treatment of hair loss in men. Currently, he is investigating an even more effective treatment of male pattern baldness and for reversing gray hair back to its natural color.
He has been active in the development of new anti-viral agents. Dr. Hashemiyoon was one of the first investigators of cidofovir during the human studies in Leuven, Belgium in 1994. Cidofovir was later FDA approved in July 1996 in the United States for CMV retinitis for AIDS patients. His initial studies at GWU Hospital on laryngeal papillomas were published in the ENT Journal and laid the groundwork for further development; the Voice Treatment Center at George Washington University Medical Center is now a ground breaking tertiary care center treating patients with the worst resistant laryngeal/respiratory papillomas.
His phlebology specialty center in Virginia was a research center in 1995-1996 for the initial studies which helped get Photoderm FDA approved. Photoderm was the initial light therapy which eventually launched laser hair removal and a slew of other laser therapies.
In 2004 he suggested using a glaucoma medicine called Lumigan specifically for its side effects of growing eyelashes long and thick. In 2008 the same medication/prostaglandin was FDA approved as Latisse.
At one time he was licensed in six states (Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Ten ne see, New Jersey, and California) and opened over 30 specialty centers across the country. He taught many physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Nurses proper diagnosis and treatment of venous disorders. He was one of 6 distinguished authors of the medical textbook, Vein Diagnosis and Treatment.
Dr. Hashemiyoon is now the Medical Director and Founder of several health care facilities. The scope of these practices is wide and varied but all are specifically specialized to serve the particular health care needs of the community.
Now Dr. Robert Hashemiyoon is medical director of the Elite Medical Cosmetic Centers with three offices in Los Angeles that are leading specialty centers providing state-of-the-art care for varicose and spider veins. The practices provide the most advanced treatment available for venous disorders including micro-injection transcatheter therapy, laser like treatment with Photoderm VL®, Altus Cool Glide® Laser, ambulatory phlebectomy, and Color Flow Duplex Mapping and sclerotherapy, and the newest technology called Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLTTM); there are only a handful of centers worldwide that provide this innovative procedure for the treatment of varicose veins. Dr. Hashemiyoon was the official instructor for Diomed Laser in the Los Angeles area for several years; he trained doctors from the Mid-West to the West coast on the EVLT procedure.
Additionally, he has pioneered the way towards non-surgical solutions to many cosmetic needs, Dr. Hashemiyoon has advanced non-surgical procedures to a new level. The Liquid Face-Lift (designed to turn back the clock 5-10 years) and the non-surgical nose job are two of his innovative procedures that allow patients to now achieve near surgical results without surgery.
The new Smart Lipo procedure is a great way to reduce unwanted fat from difficult areas and tighten the skin without surgery. For liposculpting it is ideal. For general weight loss Dr. Hashemiyoon has continued his early work in the field of Bariatrics medicine. He is part of a new movement of physicians that are debunking the old beliefs of weight loss and exercise. Treating obesity as an illness this new platform has empowered both doctors and patients to work towards realistic goals of weight control and good health.
After 4 years of working at Reliant Immediate Care next to LAX airport in El Segundo Dr. Robert decided to expand health care access by founding Elite Urgent Care Centers (EUCC) with Dr. Vincent Bennett.
With offices in Torrance/Palos Verdes and San Fernando Valley Elite Urgent Care Centers provides urgent care and workman's comp services to a large portion of Southern California. EUCC is currently expanding its offices into the Pasadena and Encino areas.
Established in 2010 The American Medical Evaluation Centers provides medical evaluations for chronically and severly ill patients in need of medical cannabis as a treatment alternative to prescription medications. These patients include many Los Angeles residents diagnosed with cancer, HIV, intractable Migraines, colitis, chronic pain syndrome, seizures, and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. The local community in the Southbay and general Los Angeles area have come to recognize American Medical Evaluation Centers as a professinal, legal, and confidential medical center specialized in the evaluation of patients for the use of medical marijuana. Several local doctors and even Harbor UCLA Oncology ward now specifically refer patients to AMEC for this unique service.
